Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) Treatment in Ohio

Understanding Chronic Venous Insufficiency

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is a common condition that affects blood flow in the legs. When the one-way valves inside your leg veins weaken or fail, blood can pool in the lower legs instead of returning efficiently to the heart. Over time, this can lead to swelling, heaviness, skin discoloration, and even painful ulcers.

CVI often develops gradually and can result from varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or long-standing leg swelling. At Ohio Vein and Vascular, our team helps patients across Ohio; including Columbus – Polaris, Mentor, Avon, Medina, Independence, and Canton, understand and treat the underlying cause, not just the symptoms.

Common Symptoms:

  • Aching, tired, or heavy legs (especially after standing or sitting for long periods)
  • Swelling around the ankles, calves, or feet
  • Varicose or spider veins
  • Skin darkening or thickening near the ankles
  • Dry, itchy, or leathery skin
  • Slow-healing wounds or leg ulcers

Even mild symptoms can worsen over time if left untreated – early evaluation is key.

Why Evaluation Matters

Untreated CVI can lead to ongoing discomfort, skin breakdown, or open sores that are difficult to heal. The good news: modern vein treatments make it easier than ever to restore healthy circulation and relieve symptoms.

At our Ohio vein centers, a quick, noninvasive ultrasound evaluation can identify problem veins and guide a personalized treatment plan.

Minimally Invasive Treatment Options:

Ohio Vein and Vascular offers advanced in-office treatments designed to close diseased veins and reroute blood to healthy ones—with little to no downtime:

  • Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA): Uses gentle heat to seal faulty veins.
  • ClariVein®: Combines mechanical action and medication to close veins without heat.
  • Varithena®: A prescription microfoam that treats larger varicose veins through a small injection.
  • Sclerotherapy: In-office injections for smaller surface veins.
  • Unna Boot Compression Therapy: Helps promote healing for venous ulcers related to CVI.

For more complex cases, Venous Intervention and Stenting can be performed in our Cath Lab to open narrowed veins and restore blood flow.
