Venous Intervention and Stenting

What Is Venous Intervention and Stenting?
Venous Intervention and Stenting is a minimally invasive Cath Lab treatment used to open narrowed or blocked veins in the pelvis and legs. When veins are compressed or scarred, blood can’t return to the heart efficiently—leading to leg swelling, pain, heaviness, and skin changes. A tiny metal mesh tube called a stent is placed to keep the vein open and restore normal blood flow.
At Ohio Vein and Vascular, this procedure is performed by our vascular specialists in a comfortable outpatient setting using advanced imaging for precision and safety.
How the Procedure Works
Using image guidance, your specialist threads a small catheter into the affected vein through a pinhole entry. A contrast study and/or intravascular imaging assess the narrowed segment. The vein is gently opened with a balloon (venoplasty) and a stent is placed to support the vein wall and maintain healthy flow. Most patients return home the same day.
